Formatting your USB drive

When using your HDD/SSD/USB drive for Chromium OS and/or Chrome OS, you have to be very careful when formatting as most tools will damage your drive and make it only have 31MB of data available and this is NOT reversible.

 The best tool to format your drive is called HDD Guru. This will allow you to format with a much lower risk of damaging your drive but be aware that there is ALWAYS risk when formatting a drive, not just when using them for this project.

 HDD guru allows you to perform a low level format however this isn't needed. The easiest and quickest way to format using this software is as follows.
  1. Open the software.
  2. Select your drive.
  3. Select format on the second tab at the top.
  4. Select the option to 'Just wipe MBR'.
  5. Once this has finished, use Windows format as per usual.
  6. Done!

Please note, this software has never given me any issue formatting a drive but if any issue does arise, I am not help liable or responsible as you are following these instructions at your own risk.

    when going to the HDD Guru website, it gives options for different wiping/formatting tools. which one would you recommend?
